A week after its controversial naphtha cargo was removed, the unmanned ship MT Nu-Shi Nalini, presently docked at Berth 9 in Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) is all set to leave Goa.
According to an MPT official, the tanker has been sold to a company called ‘Global Tankers’ for around Rs 13.5 crore, after six bidders participated in the auction at the High Court.
The MPT was, however, unsure when the new owner would take charge of the vessel or how soon the vessel could be moved to its new destination.
“The vessel has been sold in an auction through the Bombay High Court and the MPT has been informed of this development,” said the source.
“MPT officials will now be in touch with the new owner and coordinate further formalities as to when the unmanned ship will be towed from MPT. There are a lot of formalities to be taken care of before the ship can leave the port.”
“We have information that the new owner may put the vessel back to use and in operations for liquid cargo transportation and we feel the ship will definitely be taken to a port which may have a dry dock so that necessary repairs can be carried out,” the official added.
The officials said the unmanned ship was towed back into the port on December 11 and docked at Berth 8, after running aground off Dona Paula on October 24.
The naphtha was later removed and stored in the Ganesh Benzoplast Limited (GBL) tanks.
“The unladen vessel has been docked at Berth 9 since December 12,” said the official.
It may be recalled that the Sheriff of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay Admirality and Vice Admirality Jurisdiction had issued a notice pursuant to an order dated December 10 passed by the high court.
